30 Days of Nonviolence
Nonviolence begins with each and every one of us.
It is born when one person transforms fear, anger, or aggression into universal love, compassion, and resilience. Michael Nagler coined a term to describe this energy within us: person power. “It’s not about putting a different person in power,” Michael says. “It’s about revealing a different power in people.”
1. Go deeper: Read our transcript on What is Person Power?
2. Practice: Throughout the day, observe any feelings of fear, anger, or aggression that may arise. Practice pausing from any reactions that could limit your person power (good examples of pausing might be walking around the block or taking a few calming breaths before speaking to someone about an issue that really bothers you).
