Weekend Activities

1. Read Chapter 1 of Gandhi Searches for Truth: A Practical Biography for Children, “A Great Adventure Begins” (if you haven’t yet purchased the book, you can do so here).

2. Reflect together: What does it mean to tell the truth? What does it mean to search for Truth? What does it mean to live Truth (and what can get in our way)?

Practice Throughout the Week

First, hold a family meeting about values. Begin your meeting with something beautiful — maybe a short song, a poem, or an inspiring quote. Follow this with a few moments of quiet reflection. Then, invite each family member to share their highest values. Ask and answer these questions (you may want to have someone write your collaborative answers down, so you can refer to them later):

  • Who are we as a family, and what is the purpose of our family?

  • What do we care about in the world?

  • How do we hope to treat one another?

  • What do we wish for one another?

Continue your conversation about values throughout the week, touching upon the deep power within everyone for peace. How can your family be a force for goodness in your community?
