Certificate in Nonviolence Studies

2022-2023

The Metta Center’s Certificate Program in Nonviolence Studies will consist of a series of courses that explores the broad and ambitious scope of nonviolence. Each course will be 1-3 credit units, depending on the study requirements and length of time needed. In order to earn the Certificate, participants will need a total of 8 or more credits, which need to be completed in two years maximum.

The ‘Introduction to Nonviolence’ course (1 credit) is required and is a prerequisite for taking other courses in the Certificate Program. The completion of an independent final project (1 credit) is also a requirement for earning the certification. Coursework and projects can be completed over the span of two years, and the certificate will be granted upon satisfactory completion of 6 or more credit units of coursework, an interview with the Metta Center, and instructor approval that the final project demonstrates the participant’s understanding of nonviolence in the world.

For the 2022-23 year two or more courses will be offered and will be listed on this page shortly. Alumni who have taken the Certificate Program in prior years are welcome to re-apply. Please contact us if you have further questions.

Metta's Nonviolence Certification Program was a welcomed opening in my life to further my understanding alongside fellow travelers from across the world. I recommend it for anyone looking to learn, from the basics to more advanced. The program is an incredible framework for what to do and more importantly, how to think. I'm grateful for the knowledge and experience.

Everyone should have a foundation of nonviolence studies. It is a necessary element of positive evolutionary development we must undergo as a species.
