Patience, Love, Endurance
Principle: Nonviolence is a force that draws its power from a place of resolute love. Where there is love, there is also a capacity to endure hardship for those we love. We are patient but not passive. As Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan said, “The weapon of the Prophet is love, and patience, and endurance.”
Reflection: Sometimes in nonviolence, people aim their actions toward those who consider themselves an opposition, instead of toward those who see themselves already as allies. But allies do not always have consensus on methods, means, goals, and strategies, and by having a unified approach, we become stronger. Reflect on how practicing nonviolence within your own community can have a strengthening impact for your message to the wider world. How do love, patience, and endurance shape this vision?
